Raj Fernando, an Active Philanthropist and Entrepreneur

Raj Fernando is the CEO and former founder of Chopper Trading. He is also the current founder and chief executive officer of scoutahead.com. Raj Fernando is an expert in IT innovations and international financial markets. Fernando is also actively involved in foreign policy matter and currently serves on the Foreign Policy Leadership Committee which is based in Brookings Institute, in addition to his board membership in the American Security Project as well as Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

Career path

At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, he began his career as a volunteer. He later worked his way up in different positions in the company and at the Chicago Board of Trade between 1991 and 2001. In 2002, he founded the copper Trading. The company expanded tremendously under his leadership to over 250 employees and managed to trade on the LSE, CME, Nasdaq, ICE, ECAP-Broketer, Eurex, and Cantor Fitzgerald-espeed.

Fernando made significant contributions to the operations of the US Commodity Trading Futures Commission (CFTC) trough supporting its mission of establishing competitive, transparent, and financially viable markets. In the year 2013, he addressed an international audience which included shareholders and the media during the annual Rosenblatt Global Exchange Leader Conference.

In 2015, DRW Trading Group, a Chicago-based trading firm bought Chopper Trading Company from Fernando. Later in 2016, he launched the Internet startup firm, scoutahead-a company crafted to enhance professional and corporate grown and productivity. This was through establishing advanced and secure communication systems. Currently, he serves as the CEO and the chairman of the company.

Fernando’s Philanthropic Efforts

Fernando supports a number of philanthropic efforts around Chicago and the United States. He serves on the board of trustees for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as well as the board of directors for PAWS Chicago. Also, he is a supporter of the Clinton Foundation, Wounded Warriors, and Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago.

Fernando is a renowned leader in areas of security, and this ensured his appointment to the International Security Advisory Board in 2011.
